Fencing in (or out?)

Spent a large part of the day putting up fence along the back property line. The new neighbors got the materials and we worked with them to get the posts in and ready to hang the fence tomorrow. Having it up is making it more desirable to get the front done as well. That's all good but I needed to do some computer work this weekend. Also got a lot of updates done to the Sandy Valley page. Perhaps I should get going and set up a community site and see if there aren't some bloggers hiding out in these parts.

Raising kids

Matt Raible points out it's actually easier raising kids with no TV.

Nevada powerless

Nevada power treated its rural customers in Sandy Valley to an eight-hour power outage. It remains frustrating that their service is so much less reliable than Valley Electric just a few miles away. Of course it took a half-dozen phone calls and heavy persuasion to convince them to send the bills to the zip code we live in instead of some other zip code they have an unfortunate affinity for.

Seasons

The start of the high school football season is one of the markers of the beginning of a new school year. Dusk comes noticeably earlier now and the long days of summer wain at an ever faster pace.

At the law school the term is underway. Orientation sessions complete, a new group of students are on their way to earning JD degrees. A handful of intense IT projects are underway and the days are never boring.

Different sort of day

Today has been a different day on the ranch. We've had spells of strong thunderstorms passing through. This uncovers one of my only gripes about satellite internet. It doesn't work well in storms. So when we have to come in because it's too nasty outside I can't get my computer work done either.... We also had a few scary moments as Irving was rolling and got himself stuck under the bottom rail of the arena fence. After we got him freed and left him to roam in the arena with Jez he got his front leg stuck in a section of fence and broke that rail while pulling the fence out of the ground. Just a crazy day.
