It is only in the balance of hard work, scholarship and remembering to take the lighter moments in life that we can make our maximum impact on the world.

Tool or cat toy?

Chris Pirillo seems to think that laser levels are designed to be used as tools to do productive work. After a day of rain and a night of more rain to follow, it seems there is an alternate use for them (maybe the primary use, who knows). Simply point it at the floor and move in circles. Within moments the cat will be neurotically chasing the red spot around on the floor. It is better than the old "chase your tail" game that was en vogue last week.

As alluded to above the rain is still coming. We just closed out a year of nearly twice the annual rainfall. We're very near the average monthly rainfall for January and there is plenty of this storm to go, not to mention a few more weeks of January. In the desert you never wish for less rain, at the same time it is rare you think that it has been a long time since things were dry.

Catching up

Today brought the wonderful opportunity to catch up with an old friend, James, an esquire turned aviator has been a friend through many ups and downs. We agreed that the last year has been a year of great change and new opportunities. The wonderful news is that James will be blogging here. There are a few more details to work out in order to have everything smooth. Now on to do some work on the categories on this site. Presently there are only two people listed in the people category. James and John Denver. While I'd never say Denver was bad company, it might not be the best company to keep in aviation circles.

Can you stop the rain?

Not that we really want the rain to be stopped. Tonight brought another round of rain on top a November that is already in the list of the wettest on record. More rain for the Mohave!

One of those days

The Bryan Adams song of a few years ago asks have you ever had one of those days? Yes! Today was the day for a Thanksgiving trail ride. Of course it started raining last night and has been raining and snowing ever since. Las Vegas is below the snow level, but the early morning trip to pack everything up was more than we could handle. Sarah and Linda went to the lunch portion of the ride in the car and I went to work. Time to install Subversion. Head over to Wilfredo Sanchez's site to pick up the necessary parts. Of course there are no directions. No specific instructions. It turns out Sanchez must be in the midst of refresh because several files are dated Friday and the tools don't work. Time to drive home in the rain and snow.

Bringing home the bus

We went by a couple of weekends ago to pick up "the bus." With a dead battery it didn't want to start and as we worked in the back end it seemed to be leaking gas in the engine. We stopped and had it towed to the shop. They checked it out and gave it a clean bill of health. I'm still not sure what the problem was... Anyway the '79 sage green VW Westfalia is living at our house until it finds a new and happy home. It brought back all kinds of memories to drive it home last night. Windows down, iPod playing and cruising down the road. We stayed off the interstate and made it home just fine. It will make a great base for somebody who wants to fix up a classic bus.
