Indian Springs this week

Several happenings this week that impact Indian Springs. One is the establishment of a National Center of Excellence on unmanned aerial and ground vehicles at Creech Air Force Base (formerly Indian Springs Auxiliary Air Field).

Four legal notices for Indian Springs appeared in this week's paper as well. Three involve permits for the transfer of water by the Southern Nevada Water Authority. The fourth, also published July 12th, is a request by Indian Springs Sewage Co., Inc. to discontinue providing sewage service to the community.

Accessory apartments for Clark County?

The Clark County Commission will consider a change to the county's land-use code, Title 30, allowing accessory apartments in several single-family residential areas. Accessory apartments would be limited to 30% of the square footage of the main residence and in the urban and suburban areas could not exceed 1000 sq. ft. In rural areas the maximum size, also limited to 30% of the main residence, is 2000 sq. ft.

In rural areas the accessory apartment can be the building that was originally the primary residence but the accessory apartment cannot be rented or leased until the principal residence is occupied by the property owner. A condition of the accessory apartment proposal would require that the property owner occupy either the primary residence or accessory apartment and that a deed restriction be placed on the deed listing and acknowledging the conditions of the accessory apartment provision.

House increses spending in Indian Springs, Nevada

$60 million could be headed to Indian Springs, Nev., after the House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006 (PDF). The bill provides $84 million for construction and land acquisition in Nevada, including over $60 million for construction at Indian Springs Auxiliary Air Field where the Predator program is based.

Plan draws ire of neighbors

Residents on the east side of Indian Springs, Nev. are protesting a neighbor's request to change the zoning and put in a trailer park on their property. The planning commission recommended approval of the change even after the town board unanimously recommended(PDF) denying the request. It's sad to see a community go downhill. The east side of Indian Springs consists of larger parcels of land, many of which are home to horse and other agricultural estates. The community could be a real haven for horse owners and others looking for a great refuge from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. The saddest part is the number of people willing to sacrifice a good quality of life for a quick green (or peach) back.
