The weekend wrapped up with an enjoyable barbecue at the Sandy Valley Volunteer Fire Department. Along with the traditional burger and hot-dog fare teams took to battling the barrel down the line with fire hoses. A great end-of-summer time in the warmth of the Nevada desert. Early start to the fire season

Following on the heels of the Picnic Rock fire that scorched nearly 10,000 acres the Larimer County Commission has implemented a fire ban through June 1, 2004. It is one more indication of a possibly rough fire season ahead.

Overland Fire Update

October 29, 2003

Evacuations because of the Overland fire include:

Jamestown
Lefthand Canyon to US 36
Heil Canyon Ranch Area

Sheriff's deputies have swept the impacted areas making announcements over public address systems and invoked reverse 911.

Temporary shelter for those impacted by the fire has been setup at the Boulder County Fairgrounds on the west side of Longmont.

The fire started two days after a fire engine from Left Hand Canyon Fire Department was sent to battle the California infernos.
