Ecto Test Post

You can safely ignore this test post. It is a means of testing the Ecto weblog editor.

Importing Eudora to Apple Mail

Looking at the excellent Take Control book series I came across Eudora Mailbox Cleaner which looks really interesting. It has been a while since I did the last Eudora conversion but it may be helpful for some folks who are still looking to migrate.

IT Jobs in education

Yesterday I started tagging interesting jobs in the information technology realm of higher education as I see them. There will likely be a heavy emphasis on the western states but it will not be exclusive.

The first post is the Director of Information Technology for Computing and Communication Systems at Northern Arizona University. NAU is an institution I have no connection to but Flagstaff is a beautiful place if you like desert mountains.

Schools lax in fire drills

The Appleton Post-Crescent reports state fire officials are concerned about lax fire drill practices at schools. It seems Wisconsin recently amended its laws and officials estimate compliance with the required monthly fire drill rules at about 40 percent.

This is an area of particular interest to me. When I was in grade school I fought the establishment over the lack of fire drills - which we had roughly annually - and the emergency exit gates that were padlocked shut. Eventually things changed but not until our group of crusaders had been to the state fire marshal and the school board meeting.

Hospital Tour

Yesterday was hospital tour day. It is a nice place overall and should be comfortable when the time arrives. Now with a couple more things to get we'll be ready.

How to get RegisterFly Authorization Codes

I've written previously about a few of the reasons everyone on earth should avoid RegisterFly. One of the questions that comes up from time to time is how to get the Authorization Code needed to transfer your domain away from them. The secret in my case was that you had to turn off "Private" registration and then the authorization code shows up in their Whois system. It may not be a great option for some but it's better than loosing domains.

George Strait in Concert

Early this month we went to see George Strait in concert at the MGM Grand Arena. The venue is disappointing in the terrible entrance and exit. The shortcomings of the venue aside it was a great concert.

Taylor SwiftTeenage, country-newcomer, Taylor Swift was first up. Her inexperience and youth definitely show up, especially when paired with the experience of legends like Strait and Ronnie Milsap. Swift's prolific song-writing is impressive to say the least. One can only wonder what she will become as her voice and stage presence matures. Her on-stage jokes about getting back at past boyfriends and those who treated her poorly were funny the first time. They lost their appeal on the second and third repetition.

Back on the air

After a brief break to do some real world renovation I'll be back to writing a bit more frequently here. There are many things to cover from the George Strait concert last weekend to some great updates in web tools and the promised review of the Logitech Laser Desktop 530 (short version I love it, by the way). And with the SPAM module working pretty well comments won't be moderated anymore.
