A blog post by John Borland at C|Net's Apple Blog goes light on the facts to try and take a swipe at Apple.

The post, incorrectly, states that Apple defines blogs as "A weblog: blogs run by twenty-something Americans with at least an unhealthy interest in computers."

There are just two problems with this. First it's the Oxford American Dictionary not Apple who comes up with the definitions. Second it's not a definition but an example given of how the word can be used.

But why let the facts get in the way of a false story.

Update: It appears even the usually credible Dan Gillmor was taken in by this absurdity. Although Gillmor's original post was nearly 24 hours later than the original it still mis-quoted the facts. Later an update begins to set the record straight that this is really the Oxford American Dictionary, not Apple computer who is a might busy with dominating the online music industry and cranking out minis at the moment to stop and write a dictionary.

The worst part is that several of these folks have posted screen shots of Apple's dictionary application. Below you see the very first screen that comes up each time the application is launched. Hmmmmm.... I wonder who provides the dictionary?
